Did the same thing about 4 years ago as you thinking. I had a john deere van brunt drill and I think it is on 7in spacing. Had beautiful straight rows. Wife told me I'm such a bohunk farmer, even our grass is planted like corn. I was kind of proud of it. LOL. It did fill in after a couple years. I didn't have time to jack around and only thing I had available that was capable of planting grass. I agree otherwise use a broadcast spreader and harrow it in. Cover it with straw and keep it damp. If i was to do it again, I'd unhook the down spouts and just let it scatter everywhere and drag it.
