Subject: RE: Salina Kansas during WW2

South Central Kansas
AP4 - 3/25/2024 20:11

Schilling air force base was there and closed in the... 70s? It's now the airport. Has one of the longer runways in the US I believe.

Kansa was full of air fields during the war. Most of these are now municipal airports. B29 pilots trained in Pratt and Great Bend.

About the longer runway, the around the world flight by the Global Flyer in 2006 started and ended at Salina Airport. I was there to see the landing on March 3, 2005.
