Subject: What depth should dry fertilizer be on John Deere Corn Planter?

We are rebuilding our John Deere corn planter and noticed that the depth wheels for the front fertilizer row is level with the bottom of the outlet. To me, that will place fertilizer close to the surface? Shouldn’t it be 2x2” from the seed? Meaning 3.5-4” into the ground?
