What was different about it to be able to remove asphalt from a road or roads? Other than high wind speeds, did it hug the ground harder and longer? Think there was footage of the absent asphalt as well as where it even noticeably removed soil from a field.
Have a vague remembrance of the hospital taking a direct hit. Maybe some of you lived near or not far from Joplin and recall the tornado.
EDIT: I got the Joplin tornado interchanged or mixed together with the Jarrell, TX twister. Apparently it was the latter that removed asphalt and even concrete along with bricks and turned it all into dust. It was stated that the Jarrell tornado was so powerful that an above ground storm shelter would not be safe or suitable for such strong winds in a direct hit. The airborne debris that is likely to be tossed around and slammed into any shelter must also be considered when choosing a storm shelter. It's not just the ferocity of the strongest winds alone.
