I've been running Opensuse with KDE desktop for quite some time. Mainly because it was the main distribution I worked with back in my professional days. I recently installed Linux Mint on an older desktop just to check it out and was pretty impressed. I didn't do a lot with it but my impression was that it is probably easier for someone coming from Windows than Opensuse.
