You don't have the pile dense enough to get going enough to build the coals, or keep going through the pile. It will burn good next winter if you can wait, or you can try filling in the densest part of the pile with slightly drier stuff to get it going good, or try re piling it denser. Do you have a way to push it up once it's burned the center out and died back?
