Subject: Dairy Trait Heritability/Genomics

SW Wisconsin
Just a fun data point I figured out today:

I have 26 cows in my herd with both genomic evaluations and at least one complete lactation record. Plotting the genomic analysis for percent fat on one axis and lifetime percent fat production on the other, drawing a trend line, and calculating the slope of that line, says that a 1% increase in genomic fat will result in, on average, 3.6% higher fat test. Average fat test of included cows is 4.89%, average genomic fat percent is +0.164%. Standard deviation is 0.373%

Protein average test is 3.81%, average genomic is +0.07%, 1% increase in genomic protein averages out to 3.56% increase in produced protein, standard deviation is 0.156%

For pounds of milk, average production is 8566 lbs in 305 days, 100 lbs genomic translates to 55 lbs actual, with standard deviation over 305 days of 953 lbs.

Edited to correct milk value and add standard deviation.
