Subject: Six months after the milk cows left

north-central Indiana west of Fulton

We have been busy, but doing different work, and not starting as early in the morning as before, and not having to quit to do evening milking. It has been the best 6 months ever.
The old and the newer freestall barn have both been gutted out inside…..freestalls and curbing all removed. All the good freestalls and fans, waterers, quite a few gates, and some other stuff went to a Mennonite farmer in the county (the milk cows had gone to another, also in the county). We still need to remove roll up curtains for him this summer, we will replace with steel on barn. The milkers and tank ,and most things in the parlor area went to Michigan a week ago. 2 Hanson silo unloaders and winches were removed by 3 guys from Kentucky last week, and one guy came back to get 2 feed bulk tanks a couple days ago. We high pressure washed the feed area, and most of the parlor building except the parlor itself….. some equipment is still to be removed there.
We sold the tmr, and the manure hauling tractor, but are keeping the tractor that was on the tmr mixer. May or may not sell the slinger spreader , since we still have heifers at other location. Still plan on making hay ,so keeping most hay equipment.
All fences have been removed and wheat and grass were planted in lots to be mowed or farmed.
Haven’t figured out the best location to store each piece of machinery yet, but will eventually.
The boys have been doing repair jobs for others and I have been doing things I want to do , and not have to do! It has been nice to get ready for spring field work this year…..but it is now wet and we are waiting for it to dry. Still read stock talk every day.
