You won't go wrong with either loader. The 840 is not "much better" by any means. The 280 is stout; probably the first "tough" loader that Deere made.
The mounts can be a problem on the 40 series through 60 series.
And entrance into the cab is simply horrible on that series.
But a 840 on 8000 series is perfect.
840s aren't that hard to find, you just have to drive a ways.
