I think they start to leak at the pan seal. If you take apart and install new seal, make sure you use a High quality adhesive sealant. with gasket. I had a Brigg's on my mower go out twice, local engine builder recommended a product, And hasn't blown out again.. (yet). I forgot the name of the product..
