Got a Gallagher fault finder,    just a simple  single hook, press button to test.  It shows line voltage, amps, and  direction of the  fault.  
How in the heck does it work with single point contact;  no return path to ground??
Dang thing has saved me  countless hours of finding  shorted out  fence.    It even works with me sitting on the 4 wheeler,  reasonably ungrounded and simply reaching over to the wire.
