Subject: RE: Chainsaw sharpener questions

Mid-Michigan
I've had an electric sharpener for 20 years and have sharpened hundreds of chains. If you use your saw it's a great investment. I have a silvey but I don't think they are in business any more. I think if I were buying I'd get a stihl. Forget all the other junk. Also, it's well worth buying bulk chain. Make yourself 8 or 10 chains and take them all to the woods with you. Chain get a little dull, swap and keep going. I still carry a file but rarely use it. Nothing to making your own chain. You need a breaker and a rivet spinner. Hardest thing is counting the correct number of cutters. It really helps to have all your saws with the same gauge bars. Otherwise you have to have multiple rolls of chain and its hard to keep them separated.
