“These are the times that try men's souls.”
When I worked for a Gehl distributor in the 80's the 3 auger boxes were made by Knight. Same as the box spreaders, they carried the same model numbers like a 350 spreader, 410 spreader, etc. Then at some point in late 80's if I recall they had the Vandale mixer box design if I recall. I'm thinking about that point Gehl went direct to their own dealer network we lost distributorship at that time. They took our salesman, and signed up our dealers for their own. Wasn't long Gehl equipment fast lost market share in the west. Dairy economics changed to bigger dairies, and put their pull type choppers out of business.

As far as BU boxes, in the west most all of them was Gehl or Knowles running gears, wood box built in our shops, but used Gehl unloader on them. Very few Gehl metal side BU boxes from factory here. At that time baggers became the craze, guys used trucks to unload into. All the BU boxes got sent to edge of the feilds here.
