Highland Center, in Southeast Iowa | If that's a real recent picture, I think it may be just the time of year. Ours turns that shade of purply-brown in the early fall. Our old bush is ancient............I transplanted it from an old neighbor's place when he went to live with his daughter and his house and bldgs were torn down. It had a bad year with the hard winter and all, and did not bloom this year............I thought it was dead. But mid-summer it began to regrow and bush out more. I think it will be OK for next year, but I'll prune out the old dead wood before winter.
Hope your lilac turns out to be OK...............they're one of my favorites in the spring. |
