southern MN | A German version is 'bobbin lace', typically makes edges & such not a whole wide piece.
Crochet is kinda 1/2 way between knitting and tatting, uses one hook instead of 2 needles, with a fine hook & a thin thread & a lot of time one can come up with a lace type work of any size. This might be a good option for a big item like a tablecloth.
(My mom was pretty good at all such, as well as most of my 18 aunts.)
