Our yard's on a gravel ridge, so the soil here is brown. I hauled in stuff from one of the quarters where the dirt was piled from a dugout - it's black loam. We did amend it though - the soil in the garden is 50% loam and 50% composted manure on top of a gravel base for drainage.
