East Central Arkansas | I wouldn't say the area that I have this small patch planted would be the ideal soil type. This is a corner of a field that comes to a point and was just a good spot that was out of the way of the real crops for me. That would be cotton and soybeans. This is a silty clay loam soil and is clumpy because of the way it was worked up. The picture was taken in a strip of ground that was laid out on the side of the potatoe patch and I have had to work it several times to keep it from growing up. The last trip I made was with a chisel plow. They are raising some potatoes around here and I hear that they can make 400 + bushels a ac. The sandier soils do tend to make more pretty potatoes than what most of my ground would produce. This is just a garden patch for us. | |
