Subject: Question of the Day

There is a 40% chance of rain for Thursday. How much do you think this would help our burned-up wheat beans now? My dryland wheat beans are only green in spots (it kind of reminds of you of a dog with mange) with large areas of dead or nearly dead plants. These green plants are ankle to maybe knee high but have very few, if any, pods on them. I think the extreme heat of the last few weeks caused the plants to abort what blooms and immature pods they had, leaving only leaves and the stalk.
It is my understanding that soybeans are very sensitive to day-length, so I cannot believe a rain as late as August 30th could resurrect this miserable crop. Is there any hope (boy, that sounds bad) a rain this late could salvage this mess? (I have already contacted my crop insurance agent about filing a claim for soybeans. I earlier filed one for my frozen out wheat crop. This has been a long year.)
