The land you are looking at is not sandy, all you are seeing would be trash cover from crops last year. That bit of country has topsoil probably about 15 to 20 ft deep. All that the wheat has had was 30 kg/ha of starter phos when planted, and those pics were taken two days before i top-dressed it with 150kg/ha of urea. We just had another inch of rain after the to-dressing, and its starting to look fantastic, the 20" rows have met and you can't tell thta there was a row.

As for seed rate at the 20" spacing, we planted it @ 55kg/ha and we got a real good germ, so the plant stand is nice.
