We are in the last month before harvesting starts and the crop look promising, still a way to go and September is "Judge Month" when the Good Judge decide on the size of the crop. We are also riding on the all time high wheat prices and sure are enjoying it,the only down side is that the barley price we are being offered by South African Brewers the only brewer in South Africa is 41% less than todays wheat price The reason for such a poor price is that they can buy cheaper malt barley from Australia ,which make good business sense ,but at the same time they advertise as an" Proudly South African" company About 125 000 acres are planted barley in the Western Cape Province were 80% of South Africa malt barley is produced. We rotate our paddocks between wheat, barley, canola and lupins Find attached some photos I took today ,enjoy them ,I am enjoying my countryside this year and feel blessed South African greetings Solly |
