Subject: RE: Anhyrous flow control

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
I notice in your two cooler setup that the liquid line going back to the cooler has the elbow pointing up. We have found a few cases where this causes a problem.

Giving that elbow (the first reducing elbow) a half turn will allow the liquid to collect in the lower part of the system. Maybe not a big deal but it appears that there is plenty of room to accomplish this.

We have noticed that this half turn off situation is quite common in systems setup by Ag Systems.

For those who are curious, the photos show a two cooler system which may necessary for larger rigs at higher rates. Here for corn applications in the fall, this two cooler system is becoming more common. In a smaller rig with only one cooler, the plumbing and valving needs would be reduced.

In the setup pictured, NH3 flows into the strainers from one or two tanks. The inlets are connected by the crossover "jump" hose. The NH3 flows into each cooler and the outputs are joined together with a tee. This combined flow passes through a single Raven flowmeter which is not visible in the photos. Next the combined output from both coolers passes through a cross where a thermometer and output pressure guage are located. Next the flow passes through (in this case) a Fast Close Raven Valve. This valve acts as both the Master ON/OFF valve and also the rate control. The output from the Fast Close Valve is then allowed to split to go to two Standard ON/OFF valves - one for each half of the applicator. A small portion of the flow is redirected back to each cooler. This small portion is what is used to create the "cooling effect" to liquify the incoming NH3 in each cooler.

In this setup the Raven Console is operating in the Fast Close mode. The Raven controller could communicate with another box such as an Ag Leader or Deere 2600 to apply NH3 in a VR fashion and/or log and map the application results.

The Ag Leader Liquid Direct Command (Insight) would also work well in this situation and would not need the Raven console as it can work with the Raven Components directly. There are a variety of Raven consoles that could be used such as the Viper or 4000 family that would also offer some of the VR and Mapping capabilities all from the Raven box.
