| I'll agree with you I guess. Definetly agree on seed placement. I didn't think that was the question though. I just haven't personally seen the same results you descibe. You must know that no one uses "starter" in the drill in our area that I know of so I can't speak on that exact practice. Most of the fall starter is broadcast, either liquid or dry. The more I run my combine, the more I wonder what really is making the difference. I suspect it is mostly related to soil type.
From a pure agronomic perspective, logic would tell you to put it as close to the root zone as possible. I understand that.
