Bob, A few years ago, I let a neighbor bale my stubble on a 76 acre field. It was my flattest, best producing ground. They were "amazed" at all the bales, because they also collected a couple years of residue when raking (this was bean stubble, following two years of corn).

The following year, we were dry again (eastern Nebraska), and that field, even though it is usually my best due to bottom ground, was subpar. I attibute it to less water holding capacity, quicker evaporation of the little rain we had, and less N and nutrient availability (no tilled field for years). Needless to say, I won't allow baling on any of my ground again. On rolling or hilly ground, I would be even less inclined, for fear of erosion. My two cents - Rob Heyen
