Who can i.d. this mushroom? I assume it's non-edible? Not interested in finding out anyway though.

It's about the size of a softball...I should've put my shoe next to it for photo relativity.

It was growing just on the outside of corn field boundary next to the road ditch. Why was it there? No others around it.
