Oats like rain and cool weather. If you get both, then you'll easily get 20+ bushel. But the odds are against you with every day that passes. My oats have headed out already here and will be ready to combine in about 3-4 weeks. Wheat is about 10 days away as it is just starting to turn.

You might look at buckwheat as an alternative. Several guys in my area have grown it after a failed corn planting and it can take the summer heat better than most other crops. Here's a link to more info: http://www.jeffersoninstitute.org/pubs/buckwheat.shtml
