Jefferson, SD | I've seen benefit from N up to flowering. Once the plant has shed it's pollen it becomes mainly a top feeder meaning it derives most of it's nutrients from whatever is stored in the plant. If your blow sand spots are severely yellow it might be worth a try though. I personally would limit the application to the sand areas-when the entire pivot is watering heavier ground shut off the valve and save the money.
We have lots of very sandy soils in HI and from what I've seen the key is to have things as lush green going into flowering as possible or you'll lose out on decent yields.
As mentioned in a previous post a backflow preventer valve is a must even if you're not near any wells. | |
