Wheatley, Arkansas
We don't have the fabric buildings you speak of. We do have loop systems and auger systems on grain bins. I would not build another bin system without a loop in it .Capacity increases greatly, labor requirements go down tremendously, per bu. cost over the long run go down,Grain quality goes up due to the gentle handling of the loop, maybe not at first, but after your augers get worn. I see no way that a farmer in for the long haul, 10 years or more, can lose money with on farm storage. EX: this past fall during corn harvest, the basis at the elevators around here went to -$1.00, after harvest rush we locked in a +.10 fob the farm, a $1.10 diferance plus the freight. Last year the local feedmill basis went to +.50 in May/June. Doesn't take much otf that to pay for a set of bins.
With a loop system you also have the ability to blend grain from more than one bin or blend a loaded truck with grain from a bin onto another truck, or transfer grain from one truck to another.
The initial cost of a loop is peanuts to the advantages it gives you. IMHO.
