Subject: Farm Truck: Engines and Trans.,?

Graymont Illinois

My old Ford F600 grain trucks are needing to be  replaced.

Semi's are common anymore, but drivers are hard to find at harvest.

So, I have been looking at options.

Here is what I am looking at. 1) automatic trans Allision MT-643 or others 2) International 4300, 4400, 4900, or 8100 trucks.

4900's most likely.

International DT-466 motor.

I was thinking of putting a new alum., grain box on a tandem axle or a single axle. IH 4900 and pulling a 4-500 bu wagon.

I only haul about 5-6 miles to town. Sometimes 13 miles on one farm.

edit...... I must have hit the tab button or something? more below

I have been getting mixed opinions on if a auto/trans is good, and one friend says I need 400+ hp.

I have been hauling 300/350 bu Ford F600 trucks pulling 300-400 bu wagons for near 30 years with gas motors. Yeh, they grunted alot, and lately they keep breaking down.

Will a DT-466 and a MT- 643 combo work with a 500-600 bu truck or 300-350bu truck, pulling a 400-500 bu wagon to town, slowly 25-30 mph?

Tractors and wagons are not prefered, if your asking.;>)

Other options such as Kodiaks, Topkicks, Ford L9000 ect., but I am looking at the above due to heavy truck dealerships.

Thanks Brian
