Princeton, Indiana | A couple years ago I built a 3' x 5' table with a 1" top and 4"x4"x1/4" legs. I added two steel wheels to the back legs that are about 1/16" off of the floor when the table is in use. It is easy to roll a floor jack under the front edge of the shelf and when it is raised 6" or so the back legs tip up on the wheels and table follows you around the shop.
We have hit it with some pretty big hammers and that 1" top just will not bend! A good flat surface sure is nice for tack welding and "line up" work.
