Subject: Re: How to see potash defiency in bermuda grass

Little River, TX
What I do is pull a hay sample for each cutting and each field. Then I look in a Feeds & Feeding text for normal mineral analysis for that stage of growth,

About a week before the second cutting I pull a soil and tissue sample from one possibly 2 of my bermudagrass meadows. Each spot I get a soil probe I also take a clipping.

I use Midwest Labs, in Omaha. I get their basic soil test, and the basic plant analysis. Their published, desired, values are very close to those I have accumulated from other sources. Different States with their different soils and different climates will have insignificant differences in what they consider ideal.

If you have a clay type soil and think your Cation Exchange Capacity values are at or above 20 meq/100g consider having them give you a measured CEC. Then use the CEC value to estimate the desired soil test range for K & Mg. If you have a high pH soil ask for the sodium bicarbonate / Olsen extraction for phosphate.
