Subject: What would your guess be as to the cause of areas with no/small kernals?

Oskaloosa, Iowa 52577

Have one field of corn which seems to have about an 1.5 inch wide strip per ear, running end to end, which doesn't have filled out kernals.  Maybe in those 5-6 rows, there might be 20-25 gaps........no kernals...........like a guy with bad teeth.

The rest of the ear is filled out really well..........no missing kernals.

Entire cob is filled out.......ie maybe .5 inch at the tip not filled out.

I am guessing that 75% of the stalks are running one large ear and one smaller one.  Both ears have the same trait of having that 1.5 inch strip where the kernals have not all filled out.

Planted when really dry, but into moisture about 2 inches deep.  This field had really eratic emergence due to the lack of water.

Fertilizer applied was more than sufficient..............although the lack of water might not have moved it around enough.

Weeds in this field are not an issue.

Ears are 10 inches long.

Variety is known for flex ears.

No insects noticeable---------of any magnitude.

Thanks.
