Dwight IL | I bought my 8yr old a Husban x4. Its very inexpensive, has no gps or the like and cant really do any damage to him or anything else. Its a great training drone for control, and hovering. I would start him out on one of those for under $50 rather than spend $500 or more and have it accidentally wrecked. A used phantom 2 kit would also be a great and inexpensive option for you.

To be clear I do not sell Husban drones, nor do I know anyone who does as (I bought mine from Amazon), I simply like their product line, especially the smaller ones for kids to learn on.
