Yorkshire UK | Considering your P2 might now have limited life remaining (?) I'd risk a couple of the 3rd party ones.
Some reports suggest DJI implemented a block on alternative batteries for the P3 in the lastest firmware, though I guess the makers will soon find a way round it.
The P2 is pretty much on the back burner now so I don't suppose any such surprises will come along.
It's a good question about what you should do with old ones.
I have two from my P1 should be got rid of.
There's a lot of power locked up in them even when part discharged so putting them in normal trash is something of a fire risk apart (from environmental considerations and waste of resources).
Technically they should probably be treated as electronic waste and disposed of properly even if you had to pay!
This is possibly more something a business user should be more concerned by in case of implications which might not apply to private use.
