Lincoln, NE | By analyzing leaf temperatures within a particular leaf may also allow for the early detection of viruses affecting a leaf (Chaerle and Van Der Straeten 2000). The tobacco mosaic virus which affects tobacco plants is known to increase leaf surface temperatures in a spotted like manner which could be detected using a thermal camera long before visible signs of the virus appear on the leaves (Chaerle and Van Der Straeten 2000).
Can we do this with NCLB and other diseases? We will probably know soon.
