The Standard uses a more basic wifi system similar to the earlier Vision and Vision Plus.
In good conditions - line of sight with no trees it will go up to 3000 feet or so. 
The problem is that you can start to lose connection well before that in more realistic scenarios.
The Advanced is a better buy and will reliably go about twice as far, with almost 100% solid video and control at closer range. 

Realistically, if you often want to go more than about 500m/1500 feet the Standard will be frustrating.
