You can see they could barely contain their glee an actual incident had occurred.
Most outlets rapidly forgot the *might* part and went full on paranoid.
Reading the comments after (where allowed) you can see the relentless attack is having the desired effect on opinion.

Needless to say the BBC had the 'drone collision' about #2 story on TV news that day, but I haven't seen the 'oops that was wrong' story except online.
