SE Iowa | Not many yet, but I feel it will be rising. Many growers see the value in fertilizer (mainly nitrogen) applications, so creating prescription maps (another thread could be started about this topic, won't talk about it here). This aligns with what farmers are doing with manned aircraft and sat imagery.
I feel that there will be VERY few companies that will make their money from flying drones. A drone company will actually be much more of an agronomy service, with UAS implemented. Few farmers will just want an NDVI map of their field, they will want someone to scout their fields, and may pay a little extra for the map. A drone could also be implemented just to simply keep their current customers around, and to prove they are on the cutting edge (if used correctly)
