Black bears will eat most anything, could be the beans were at a tasty stage for it at the time.

My only firsthand experience with bears in the field is that they will destroy a 10-20' circle of corn, rip down all the stalks in that area and pile them up, guessing for a bed.

Any bear hunting done in OH? Up here we have spring & fall seasons. While I don't bear hunt, it is a pretty popular thing up here, mostly dog hunters, but some that hunt over bait as well.
