Subject: Question for the northerners (Bignorsk et all)

Hey guys,

One of the popular things to do in southern Ontario is to spread red clover on wheat ground on the March frosts. After combining and a few rains, we get a nice catch of red clover which we work into the soil to increase OM and all the good stuff a cover crop does. The last 3 years have been REALLY great for red clover.

Are you guys able to do such a thing on your ground, whether its spring or winter wheat? The factor that might hold you back is the latitude - you combine a few weeks / months later then us, so you might not get good results.

But aside from manure, how do you guys increase the OM of your soils?
