Cherokee Co., Iowa | As I said in the start of this thread there are thousands of acres in the area that went down in that storm. Some varieties stood better than others but all corn companies took a hit. The company that plants a research plot on our farm abandoned their plot because there would be no way they could separate the different varieties.
Farming practices did not seem to make that much difference, conventional, deep-til, strip-til, hog manure, Nh3, etc. I could go in all directions for several miles and find fields that look like the one I posted. Some think it was the hot and dry July that the corn just did not set all the normal root nodes.
We have borrowed a Kelderman corn reel from a friend 130 miles away that hopes he will not need it this year, although there was a storm close to Ames, Iowa that just missed him by about 3 miles last Saturday.
After we combine (or try to combine) the area the above photos are from I'll post the yield if there is any. | |
