Subject: Re: any twinrow corn or bean yields

Driftless SW Wisconsin

My comments:

- I would be hesitant to judge the merits of twin row corn by the above silage chopped tonnage "estimate/comparison". There is no discussion of the relative plant populations and many other factors.

- Based on what I have seen there generally is a slight yield increase in twin rows over straight 30" but that depends on a lot of things - how far north are you, what yields are you getting on 30's etc. Generally a slight increase of maybe 5% is reasonable in northern areas over straight 30's at the same population and at similar fertility levels.

- One of the major benefits of twin rows and reducing costs of production is improved weed control by much earlier and more complete canopy shading of the ground.

If we can shift our thinking more from pure focus on yield alone we can realize that there are many ways to increase profit other than yield. Reducing expenses of a second spray pass is worth maybe 4 or 5 bu/acre or more??

jmho.
