That is true. Actually the ashes are "Pot Ash" from the burning of the wood. Potassium is another name for the chemical analysis of the product. Something else that may be influencing your crop is the alkalinity of the wood ashes. Years ago you produced alkine soap by pouring water thru the wood ashes and then adding lard,boiling until it got thick. Probably a little more to it than that, but that would have been most of the receipt.

The point is: you may be seeing the effect from the potassium in the ashes, or the "liming effect" (alkalinity), or both.
