Subject: Re: be sure to do your own seed count on wheat

Martinsville, Ohio
Wheat is a great rotational crop Rich. The $4 plus contracts attracted a lot of farmers this summer east of the Mississippi!

Now we have a wet, muddy fall and little wheat is planted and we are running out of time. I only know of a handful of fields planted around here and know there were many more contracts written! Should be fun about next July! Sure hope we get an Indian summer soon!

In the past and still today most midwest farmers agree with you and stick with the corn and beans but $4 wheat at 80 bushels makes a good profit, spreads your workload, is great for rotation, might give you a good straw market or livestock use, might allow a double crop, and gives you time to tile, lime, kill weeds etc!

Well, that was our hope until this fall rolled around...

37 degrees here, soil is saturated, can't run those nice beans, can't plant the wheat either...
