Somerville, Indiana | made by AC, some were still going here in the 50s, 5 ft cutter bar, header on left side of machine, pull type, canvas fed to full width cylinder with rubber coated angle iron for cylinder bars...shaker was made from wood, rope adjusted the reel height 'on the go', hopper held 15 bushels, couldn't unload on the go because the chaff spreader was on the right side of the machine right behind the unload auger...material came straight in the canvas header to the cylinder, past the cylinder it turned and rode the wooden chaffer out the right side of the machine...A lot like the Deere bailer of same time frame only the Deere picked up on the right side and bales exited stage left, maybe proper word would be stage right but thats another story.
many farmers used the AC model 60 to cut or pickup windrow clover seed...the model 66 had an oversized cutter bar, same size canvas and cylinder.
main most important job was to loosen canvas and main drive belt at the end of the day...and there was hell to pay if it wasn't done. | |
