Saranac, Michigan | Just some thoughts on mapping
1. Decide on what resolution is needed. 1 foot is good for some things. A tenth of foot is not accurate enough for others. Generally tiling and landshaping need something that is around half a tenth.
2. A lot of data coming directly from a data collector is not going to get you a map that will work for high definition mapping. It is pretty easy to check the accuracy by looking for "bullseyes" on a contour map. The data quite often starts to fall apart at about 2 tenths. That may or may not be important.
3. The secret to mapping is good data and lots of it. | |
