3 inch : very little maintaince, Lose a knife section you'll have to stop and replace. Lasts all season, maybe two. Can't beat the old tried and tested original.

1.5 inch : PIA !!!!!!!!, requires daily rebuild (plan on at least 1/2 hour a day), won't cut grass (weedy kind), The only good thing of these is if a knife section breaks off you can continue to harvest until the one next to it breaks off. Did a nice job when new, cuts closer. But for me, NEVER again!

IMHO !!!
