| We had nearly the same thing happen two years ago in a corn field on a farm we rent. My Dad was running the combine that day and while unloading, said he had seen a black bear in the field. As we worked our way across the field, we chased him out and he took off cross-country. A couple of rounds later, the right side of the combine dropped into his hole. Dad said it felt like the combine was going to tip over. It climbed right out of it though with no assistance.
We farm about 50 miles SE of Eau Claire - there are getting to be a lot of bears around here these days. Never used to be any around these parts.
As for the guy who thought they only lived in the bush - bears like corn fields. In the summer, they will grab ahold of a bunch of stalks and flop over, laying there eating corn. You'll see areas about 10 ft in diameter where the corn is flattened out from this. It's our own version of crop circles! :) | |
