Central Illinois | We bought an older Dyna Drive about 5 years ago and we like what it does. This one is
15 ft wide and was manufactured by Hart Carter (before M&W bought the rights) it's gray
in color instead of M&W red.
Always pull it about as fast as we can, 7 to 9 MPH and it makes a nice seed bed. We only
use it in the spring ahead of planting. Disc rip stalks in the fall and one-pass with the Dyna Drive to
level and take out any small germinating weeds.
THE GOOD:
* Vertical tillage tool as opposed to horizontal
* In a dry year it creates a nice mulch on top to conserve moisture
*Easy on soil structure
*Ground driven, no PTO
* Does not leave ridges
THE BAD:
*IN wet conditions when tilling deep it will pack dirt on the
front rotor (they do make cleaning tines to put on the rear rotor)
*If you do have some deep rooted weeds it has a hard time taking
them all out
As far as being expensive to maintain, we have only had to replace a bearing on the rolling
basket and I have no idea how many acres it had been over before we got it.
Our tines are worn,I would like to see a new tine to compare, and replacing all our tines would probably cost $5,000.00 or more (we only paid $4,200.00 for our 15' unit). These things are built heavy with a double 100 chain in an oil bath on each end of ours. Must admit I hope it holds together, not looking forward to taking it apart to
repair things.
