Subject: RE: tell me about the cat 3116

Somerville, Indiana
It came out early in the Cat common rail fuel system, same family as the 3176, 3196, 3126, only ours isn't electronic, it is on an excavator that Mitsubishi built for Cat...Ours has 12,000 hours on it that we can verify...Uses very little oil...Have been into the fuel system twice since we bought it in 95, that part is expensive to work on, have to have special tools to get it right...its been a very good engine...they brought out the 3126 to get around a marketing arrangement so they could install them in Chevy trucks later on...I forgot the details of that deal, but you won't see a later model Chevy with a 3116 installed from the factory...3 is Cat's number, who knows why?, 6 is 6 cylinders, 11 is 1.1 liters/hole, so 6.6 liter.
