| Here is some truth from my farm in Lyon county.
I was sidedressing yesterday and the light spots that normally burn up in July are rolling leaves. Our lawns are starting to turn brown. Those prove that surface moisture is low since the crop is small and turf grass has shallow roots.
I have a really low area that has pattern tile and has a riser pump for the outlet. It used to be a wet mess and my neighbor teases me about farming below sea level. I usually shut off the pump around July 1st each year. This spring I shut it off the middle of May. That proves the subsoil is also dry.
All that being said, our crop looks really good right now. We could have huge yields this fall if we get timely in July and August. The problem is that we normally don’t get timely rain here in July and August. It could happen this year but it would be a very rare thing.
That is the truth from my area. | |
